ARTISTIC PROFILEHer artistic vocation lead her, since young, to reveal herself in drawing and then to attend art schools and competent teachers to improve. Once she learnt the art of composition and use of harmonic colour, she dedicated herself to art as a means of communication between the inner being and the world outside. Maria Pia Taverna goes beyond the purely aesthetic condition and the fleeting emotion, she distinguishes herself in contemporary art because of her ability to create strong and meaningful images, wrapped by appropriate background colours: the dominant subject is the feminine; the protagonists are the woman, the complexity and purposes of existence. Her figurative vocabulary is plastic, sometimes abstract, lyrical, always imbued with a symbolism which describes the inner design produced by contemporary society and, at the same time, makes room for new liberating perspectives. The communication line story-inner, started in the early twentieth century by Expressionists and part of the Surrealists, finds continuity in Maria Pia Taverna whose purpose is to communicate with absolute sincerity and freedom of speech.
